The cost of having a children - My estimation.

More post on baby & pregnancy. But this time around, my focus on financial. I get the this idea when i read this article.Having new baby, meaning more money to save for their future undertaking. For their education fund, their marriage fund, their 1st career advancement, our emergency money, our own saving money. Everything have to take into consideration.

In this challenging world, money is everything, even to enter the toilet also need to pay. Big amount of money have to be invested for their future and our future. My office mate struggling to save RM300K for her son education fund. After office hours, she teaching tuition, all her bonus money goes to children education fund and make me worry by look at her. How am i going to have such a lot of money for my children.

There is a lot of choices we can choose to invest our money such as Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB), Amanah Saham Wawasan (ASW 2020), Trust Fund, SSPN, Etika Insurance last but not least EPF.

For my case, we did invest in ASB, SSPN, Etika Study Fund and Public Mutual Trust Fund.

ASB
Purpose : Retire Fund.
Saving Method : Salary deduction (easy, convenient, and tak akan terlupa) so its consistently in our account until we retired.
Dividend: Approximately 7%.

SSPN
Purpose : Education Fund
Saving Method : Bank in (all Amirul's duit raya goes to this account)
Dividend : Approximately 4%

Maybank Etika Study Fund
Purpose :Education Fund
Saving Method : RM 100/month

Public Mutual Trust Fund
Purpose : Mr Hubby investment
Saving Method :RM1200/year

Amirul monthly expenses :
  • Baby Sitter : Rm 230
  • Milk : RM 20x4 = RM80
  • Disposable Diaper : RM30 (Tesco Brand)
  • Cloth Diaper (Night use) : RM 80 x 7 = RM560 (re-usable for other children)
  • extra RM50 for his food (Vitagen, cheese, yogurt, etc)
  • Total expenses for month : RM390 plus RM560(one time purchase)

This is for 1 child, and we have planned for 4. Meaning total cost for all children is approximately RM 1560/month. However this expenses will change due to inflation rate which is increasing through year. How much do i need to full fill this cost, how much salary is sufficient to cope with this money matters, how many year do i need to save this amount of money, .. Fuhhhh lastly what else do i need to think about my children future. No parent in this world want to see their children live in suffer. We, as parent will try our best to give the best to our children.. This article is about the real cost of having a baby but in US. However we may adopt theirs.

Since last week im having internet connection problem. and last nite is the ultimate nite to both of us. We like crazy people; when he looked at me and i looked at him. We both do not what to do. Switch on the TV but our furniture who watched it. Mr Hubby tried so many time to call TM service centre to fix the problem yet nothing can do. He fixed the modem, the router, the telephone line but the thing remain the same. NO INTERNET CONNECTION... arggggg

Yesterday, Mr Hubby had surveyed few other options for new broadband like Celcom broadband and U mobile broadband and still he unsatisfied with the package offered. With the previous Digi boardband

Cloth Diaper Lifespan

While browsing DiaperAsia, i found this thread and really caught my attention. Cloth diaper lifespan. As we know, cloth diaper meant for rewashed, reused, and recycle. But how long the cloth diaper can be used. Does it lifetime usage or after certain period of time, it will wear out. There must be factors to be considered for longing the life span of cloth diaper.

After few research, i found few articles which help me to gather and identify factors affecting cloth diaper lifespan.

Cloth Diaper Material
  • Polyurethane Lamiante (PUL) elastic may crack from repeated drying which will then cause leaks.
  • Washing diaper covers and/or AIO with vinegar can damage the waterproofing capability.
  • High heat may damage CDs waterproofing abilities while tumble drying will shorten the life-span of CDs.
  • Always hang dry diaper covers and wraps; Placing them in the dryer will ruin their waterproof qualities.
Washing & Care Method
  • Do not wash / dry on HOT / HIGH HEAT - This may shorten the lifespan of some CDs. Elastic of CDs will stretch, weaken.
  • Avoid using washing powder that contain fabrics softener, bleach and enzymes. Bleach causes premature breaking of the fibers and fabric softener adds a coating to the diapers that make them less absorbent.
  • Using laundry bag may prolong the CD lifespan and reduce wear out of CD's
  • Close any velcro tabs before placed into washing machine.
  • Do not used vinegar frequently; they may cause diaper with elastic to break down and shorten the CDs lifespan
  • Sun drying (when the weather permits!) is excellent for bleaching out stains, and killing of any leftover bacteria, and will also keep CDs functioning well for longer.
Actually how long is the lifespan of the CD's is subjective. Its all depend on you, how you wash, how you take care of it, how frequent you wear the CDs. Its similar to your clothes. People get holes on their panties after few months. The elastic will wear out if you do not have proper washing handling. So there is no concrete answer to this question. Read here and here may give you more info's cloth diaper lifespan.

2nd Baby - Things to consider ????

Amirul now is 17months and i think its a right time for him to get sibling. Boy or girl is not a big deal to me. As long he/she is healthy, no chronic illness, cute like me, Alhamdullilah syukur..

I already stop my Yasmin intake for 1 week, took folic acid , drink dates juice, other vitamin supplements will be followed later on.Is this enough or i need other preparations such as ; my body itself need to be prepare, my diet, do i need special food to prepare my 2nd pregnancy, does my current weight is ideal for pregnancy, does 2 years gap enough for 2nd baby. what more preparation do i need to do.. Fuh.. so many questions came across my mind and factors to considered.

Below is few factors which i considered for 2nd baby;

Age Gap
First pregnancy is unplanned, but 2nd baby, me & Mr Hubby planned at least 2years gap. I am 25, when delivered Amirul and if 2 years gap, meaning next year i should have another one. According to Babyworld website, Ideal is to have the second before your first one hits two years (and toddler jealousy sets in) or after they have turned four and are occupied with school and other activities. In Bub Hub Pregnancy & Parenting Forum , most of the forum member said 2years gap is good. BabyCentre also mentioned the same age gap between 1st and 2nd babies. 18 - 23 months gap is sufficient time for body to recover the lost energies during 1st delivery and to replenish body's resources. So now is the appropriate time for me to conceive again as Amirul will turn 2years++ by the time new baby come out.

Health & Body Preparations
I do not have any medical complications nor morning sickness during 1st pregnancy. Its a bless as my 1st pregnancy is went smooth. With my current 52kg (normal body weight), 26 year old,(read here & here for more info on age vs fertility), fully energy recovered ( i think so :D), no critical illness (diabetic, hypertension, anemia, urinary tract infection, etc), proper menstrual cycle (28days), cervical smear (done after 4months delivery) and with daily folic acid intake, my body is ready for 2nd ones.

Partner support
This is very important as grow up the children is not only mummy responsibility. Daddy also have to plays their part. As partner, we sharing responsibilities, joy & happiness, difficulties; we share everything. Mr Hubby is fully support me and he is the one who more excited than i am. He wish to have baby girl this time around. :D

I love in pregnancy figure..

Amirul Milestones Chart - Day 1 to 17months

Since day i knew i've pregnant, i went to Klinik Kesihatan Bangi for routine check up. With so much patience and determination, i managed to complete my routine checked up until 36weeks. Sometimes, i slept while waiting, sometimes i feel so angry why government clinic is so slow.. sometimes i need to wait almost 4hrs to see the doctor. I had an option to choose private clinic but why am i going to govern clinic.

Govern clinic have good periodic routine check up. Proper record book, proper of blood test, urine test, sufficient medical equipment, FOC, and their result is accurate. Bcoz they are not monetize basis, more to responsibilities to serve the community. I know some people prefer to go private clinic/hospital. This is my point of view and may differ from others. I know if i went to private clinic, i wont waste so much time for waiting and not every time i will see the doctor. Normally, nurse will check my condition yet im still loyal to govern clinic.. huhuhuh

Amirul almost completed his immunization. Never miss, thanks to fix appointment, if not i may forget. According to BabyCentre, below is Amirul recommended immunization schedule :

Most of the recommended immunization is given to Amirul. Below is Amirul's record book. Almost completed and his weight vs age also in normal range.. Alhamdulillah.. Aku ingatkn Amirul ni overweight dah, sbb ramai org ckp Amirul ni besar la..tinggi la..chubby la, montel la.. gemok la.. xkisah la.. Mummy & daddy syg Amirul.. Muahhh..

10 facts on Asthma - WHO resources

FACT 1
WHO estimates show that 300 million people currently suffer from asthma. As many as 255 000 people died of asthma in 2005.

FACT 2
Asthma deaths will increase in the next 10 years if urgent action is not taken. Asthma cannot be cured, but proper diagnosis, treatment and patient education can result in good asthma control and management.

FACT 3
Asthma occurs in all countries regardless of level of development. Over 80% of asthma deaths occur in low and lower-middle income countries. For effective control, it is essential to make medications affordable and available, especially for low-income families.

FACT4
Asthma is a chronic disease characterized by recurrent attacks of breathlessness and wheezing, which vary in severity and frequency from person to person.

FACT 5
Symptoms may occur several times in a day or week in affected individuals. For some people the symptoms become worse during physical activity or at night. Failure to recognize and avoid triggers that lead to a tightened airway can be life threatening and may result in an asthma attack, respiratory distress and even death.

FACT 6
Through appropriate treatment such as using inhaled corticosteroids to ease bronchial inflammation, the number of asthma-related deaths can be reduced.

FACT 7
Asthma is the most common chronic disease among children. But it can be controlled through different prevention and treatment plans according to individual symptoms.

FACT 8
The strongest risk factors for developing asthma are exposure to indoor allergens such as house dust mites in bedding, carpets and stuffed furniture; pollution and pet dander; outdoor allergens such as pollens and moulds; tobacco smoke and chemical irritants in the workplace.

FACT 9
Asthma triggers can include cold air, extreme emotional arousal such as anger or fear, and physical exercise.

FACT 10
Asthma is often under-diagnosed and under-treated, creating a substantial burden to individuals and families and possibly restricting individuals’ activities for a lifetime.

My Note :
Asthma is most common among children. Its a permanent illness with medication assistant and proper management of symptoms/ risks. The symptoms is vary for individual. In Amirul case, his symptoms recognized by doctor as early stage of asthma. If after 1 weeks medication, and his lung do not give any respond to the medicine, he may need to use inhaler... Hopefully his lung will give a good respond and no need to depend on inhaler.

Say No to Doctor

Malaysia current environment is bad. Sometimes hot, sometimes cloudy, sometimes raining, and now haze; this weather combination do effect Amirul's health. For 2 weeks he having bad cough, phelgm, stuffy or runny nose, difficulty breathing and often at night he had deep cough, noisy breathing. His condition worst if i put the fan in speed 5.According to BabyCentre this symptom called Croup. He do not know how to throw out his phelgm yet he felt uncomfortable if he ignore it. Few times he vomit on me. Redha aja la.. and one time he vomit on me at Pasar Borong, ShahAlam. With crowd and sweating over body, like no other business he vomit just on my face. Everything came out, and he felt relieved.

Over pass 2weeks, Amirul had doctor visit for twice and one for nebulizer treatment yet i do not see any recovery. He still had bad cough and noisy breathing at night. Its make me worry and i think its not croup. Then i went again to have doctor checked up. Early in the morning, Daddy brought Amirul to hospital again, unfortunately doctor suspected Amirul having asthma. To confirmed this, Amirul needed to have chest X-ray and blood test. At the age of 15months, he need to go through all this painful (to him) thingy. erhmm

After 5hrs of testing and waiting, the result showed.......

Amirul is in the early stage of ASTHMA. erhmmmmm

Fall asleep with a bottle made Amirul's teeth decaying ????

Should i blame for myself or others. But i think its me not Ibu Amirul nor his daddy. I am Amirul's mummy. I am the one should be responsible for everything.. Amirul's teeth is decaying.. He just entering 17months and what happened is ridiculous. He has another few more years for his permanent tooth to come out.

His 1st teeth at 9months old. He had bad fever for 1week and after recovering from fever, come out one little white tooth. Very small and cute. Im so excited. I bought him tooth brush with orange tooth paste. He like to brush his teeth, eventho i knew, the orange flavor made him like to brush his teeth.

Unfortunately, his teeth started to decay after 5months. His front teeth have one small line showing decaying. No yellow or black stain only one line. This happened when he stop suck pacifier and keep sucking milk bottle's teat for hours.

Actually i wondering, how this thing happened if Amirul brush his teeth and do not drink sweet water except for light Ribena, sweet food like chocolate and ice cream in once a month, no junk foods, thus his teeth is decaying. Its really make me worry.

Article from Baby Centre forum really upset me. Its my fault. There is one reason found which lead to this problem :
  • Milk bottle in sleeping mouth - Yes.. Im giving Amirul a bottle of milk / Ribena to ease him to sleep. But the problem happened when i did left the bottle in Amirul sleeping mouth and lead to tooth decay. I've tried to pull out the bottle from mouth, yet he will pull back to his mouth. Sometimes, this is uncontrolled
What I did is brush his teeth before sleep, give him plain water to dissolve all the sugary drink he drank before sleep and luckily he seldom awake up for milk now.

How I lose 17 kg after I gave birth to my lovely child - Amirul Arshad

I knew this topic is actually should be posted 13months ago. And I know its a lame story but still wanna share with others how i managed to lose 17kg extra weight to my pre-pregnancy weight within 4months after giving birth.

Malaysian is full with pantang larang things which make confinement is really important for mother and baby. Each race have their own confinement way like me, i've stayed with MIL for 40days. So i need to follow her way of confinement. She is Indonesian. I can say lucky me as my MIL do not believe in those pantang larang thingy. She more toward of healthy lifestyle. Everyday, she will cook bcoz her maid cabut lari afraid need to take care my baby.

According to Malays style confinement, there are few MUST things that mummies should do like, 'bertungku', massage, wear bengkung, limitation of food intake etc.

For my experience
, i did massage for 2huors, bath with herb leaves, wear pilis, wear bengkung for 3days. The aim of the massage is to help the new mother expel any residue blood clots from the uterus. Malays also believe the massage will help warm up the body to avoid masuk angin (to prevent "wind" from entering the body). However for bengkung wearing, i did wear for 60days for 12 hours without fail in order to faster slimming process.

Diet wise,MIL not allowed me to eat spicy food only and no ice water, others i can eat. Dont be shocked if i tell you that my menu is no different with other family members. Bread or fried rice for breakfast, black paper chicken or meat, ikan bilis goreng blackpaper, fried egg, seafood, vegie soup for lunch & nite. Fruits and water is a MUST to avoid constipation.

Since im breastfeed my little Amirul, MIL asked me to eat a lot for more nutrition in Amirul's milk but this mummy afraid to eat lot. She afraid she can no longer to wear her S/M size shirt. So besides eat large amount of food,i ate frequently in small quantity.

As Amirul have jaundice after day 3, i do not eat jamu immediately, bcoz herbs inside the jamu may affect Amirul condition or maybe worsen his jaundice. I just took jamu after Amirul exactly 1month old. Everyday without fail i take jamu.

So confinement to me is not a big deal. What make me crazy is that, i cant go out from house. Everyday i will look for an excuse to go out like Amirul not feeling well, myself not feeling well, huhuh. Until one time, i asked Mr Hubby to bring me out even tho i just sit inside the car.. huhuh. I officially can go out from house at my 30th day.

After 60days of maternity leave, i'm back to office with 15kg reduce. I need another 2more kilos but other things happened. "ive gain 1kilos.. oh noooo.. This scary to me as i really want to have my pre-pregnancy weight. Then my friend introduced me with Herbalife and i managed to get my pre-pregnancy weight with no disruption of milk productions. In fact my milk production is getting better.

I think my hard work (wearing bengkung for 60days, eat less but frequentt) is working as i managed to get my pre-pregnancy weight within 4 months. !! I found this informative articles on confinement that may help you. Read here, here,

I still looking for my photo on the day before admitted to hospital. Once i found it, i'll paste here.

7 reasons why I choose cloth diaper over disposable diaper

7 reasons why i am changing from disposable diaper to cloth diaper. Below is my point of view and may differ from other. However i hope this can help other mummies to start cloth diapering.
  • Economical
Here is my calculation:
Disposable Diaper
Day Use Nappy (Drypers Brand)= RM 34/72pcs = RM0.47
Nite Use Nappy (Europe Brand)= RM 39/70pcs = RM 0.56
1 day use = RM0.45 x 6 =rm 2.7
1 day, nite use = RM 0.56
Total 1 day use = RM 3.26
Total 1month use = RM 3.26 x 30 = RM 97.80
Total 1 year use = RM 3.26 x 365 = RM 1189.9
Total 3years use (until potty training) = RM 3569.7

Cloth diaper
1 pcs One Size CD = RM 88
1 have 20pcs CD = RM 1760

Note : I do not have any preferable brand of disposable diaper, which ever brand offer the cheapest price, i'll go for it as the nappy will end up in rubbish bin. I feel it a waste to buy the expensive one.
Differ to CD, i'll prefer to buy the expensive one because i want to re-use it and after all, i can sell as preloved items to those who want to try cloth diapering.

  • Environmental Friendly
Cloth Diaper is re-cycle, re-wash
Re-cycle to other children. Can passed to another siblings
Re-wash - Disposable nappies have nearly twice the environmental impact of home laundered nappies, and over two and a half times the impact of service washed nappies. 50% of domestic disposal is from disposable nappies and required 500years to decompose. How are we gonna save the green house problem if we keep disposing non-biodegradable items.
  • Easy to use
I am using one size CD. Meaning i can use the CD from newborn until Amirul potty training. If i used dispo diaper, i need to change the size when my Amirul getting bigger and the number of diaper per pack is lessen. What a waste..
  • No Smelly Rubbish Bins
This is the beauty of having Amirul wearing CD. No smelly rubbish. Amirull poopoo is really suck my nose. Sometimes the whole house can smell the smelly poopoo and the combination of Amirul poopoo with air-freshener smell sometimes make thing worse . But now, no more smelly poopoo.
  • A potty training aid
CD may not always absorbent and dry as dispo diaper. This made potty training easier as they will be more aware of wetting the nappy. The sooner Amirul diaper free, the better my life will be.. :D
  • No Nappy rash for some babies !!
My Amirul do not having rashes problem. If he do, i normally put tapioca flour on his ass and the rashes immediately dissapear. I do not spend money on the anti-rash cream.
  • Attractive colour to choose
CD have multiple colors to be chosen as well as the print. Currently Amirul stash full with orange, green, yellow, meroon, cow printed, spongebob printed, etc.

Bandung Trip - Day 5

Its time to go home.. Malaysia were my heart is. Overall my Bandung trip is enjoyable and leave a good memories to me and family. The people here is really nice, as per mention by Tante Tarti, the number of crime here also low but extra careful is required. The soft and warm weather really made my trip to Bandung a very enjoyable, eventho with Amirul chaos. The food is so-so, not in my taste bud. I still love Malaysia foods. But to me, if you want to have a trip at Bandung, recomemded not to bring your toddler along. You may not enjoy your shopping trip bcoz you bz chasing you active toddler like me . :D This is my point of view and may differ from other.

Goodby Bandung.

Baiboo Blog & Win - Baby's Day Out

Title: Baby's day Out
Contest period : 3 - 12 Jul 2009
Prize : Fisher-Price’s Laugh & Learn Song & Story Learning Chair for ages 12-36 months (Value RM199.90)

Weekend is the time for me, Mr Hubby and Amirul spend time together. We do things together, we eat together, laugh together, shout together everything together and its also time for us to strengthen our family bonding. We really loves weekend as weekday we have limited time with him.

We spend our time at mall, relative's house, friend's house, restaurant, pasar malam and playground or park is the MUST place for us to visit. Why???
  1. Amirul loves playground. - We prefer indoor playground, however sometimes we do bring outdoor ones. Give him experience of Malaysia hot weather.
  2. A lot developmental and educational toys here - Playground equipment that combines steps and ladders with slides and logs to balance on - and soft sand or safety surfaces to tumble onto --are the perfect place for Amirul to work on his motoring skills
  3. Playground also a good place for him to start socialize with others because Amirul a little bit separation anxiety / anti-social at this moment.
  4. Amirul can do what ever he want freely with mummy daddy supervision - running, jumping, climbing, shouting, chasing others,
  5. Mummy or Daddy can rest while Amirul busy playing.
  6. Amirul most fave games- Sliding.
